Cleaning Brick Floors
One of the most common questions that I get is, “How do you clean your brick floors?” For the most part, I just sweep them. I use my carpet sweeper and it does a good job of getting all the loose debris. Sometimes dirt builds up and it takes a little more effort to keep the grout looking white.
I’ve been researching and testing different ways to clean the grout. After installing the brick during our home build I tried a grout cleaner, but it did nothing.
Later, I tried using a Go Clean Co method with a small brush + powered tide + hot water. That worked OK, but my grout was pretty bad from the construction of our home. Subcontractors walked on it with muddy shoes and the dirt kind of got ground in.
A couple months ago, I saw an ad online for a steam cleaner decided that would be my next test for this pesky grout…
After minimal effort, I was able to notice a difference in our mudroom floor. It definitely works fast! I poured the water into the steamer, it took less than five minutes for it to be ready to use. I tried to limit the amount of steam released by not pushing the button down all the way. This let me still see what was going on. For tough spots you can push the button down more to allow for more steam. (Keep a towel handy to dab or wipe up the water.)
I used the grout brush tool attachment for this test and scrubbed at the same time as releasing steam. (This model comes with several other attachments, too!)

Overall, this steamer has worked best for cleaning the grout of our brick floors. When we installed the floors, I knew the grout wouldn’t stay white over time but I wanted to at least try. This little tool is going to be a big help!
I also used it to clean a spot clean our dining room rug, our sons carpeted bedroom floor, and our outdoor furniture! It worked great on them all.
NOTE: Be careful when wiping up the water after the steam. It is very hot! Using a towel or something thicker would be best for immediate wiping. I used a paper towel to dab the carpet and slightly burned my hand. I wasn’t thinking about how the carpet would hold the water more than the brick did.
